Salvaged California Fire Oak

The wildfires of 2017 and 2018 devastated large portions of California, and destroyed thousands of homes and businesses throughout the state. They also took hundreds of human lives. In addition, tens of thousands of acres of forestland was damaged, much of it so badly that it will take decades to recover.

To help with the recovery, California’s foresters are organizing plans to salvage many of the dead trees, removing a source of fuel and helping surviving and newly planted trees and plants to thrive. Exotic Hardwoods & Veneers is assisting this effort by purchasing some of the removed trees to cut into veneer and lumber for panel and flooring production.

The first of these logs, Garry Oak (Quercus garryana), have arrived at Exotic Hardwoods in the form of veneer. Salvaged from the Mendocino Complex fire, this veneer has taken on some new and wonderful characteristics from having gone through the flames.

While work in the woods and mills will help some of the fires victims, Exotic Hardwoods & Veneers wants to help more. To this end we will be donating a percentage of profit from this veneer to the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund and the North Valley Community Foundation.
